During the last two years I have been keeping up with Javier Villegas in between his travels as a major Competitor within Freestyle Motocross Industry. I have had the opportunity to shoot with Javier since 2009 & have been able to grab content with him from various locations such as Reche Canyon & Metzger's Paradise Ranch to events like the Red Bull X Fighters, Glen Helen or the Toyota Long Beach Grand Prix . Some of Javier's recent accomplishments would have to be his World Championship with IFMXF otherwise taking the Bronze Medal in X Games. In 2011 Javier Villegas began training in the city of Norco, Ca at a location now known as Animal's Yard. Since then, he has recently moved his training location to one of Southern California's popular motocross tracks, Milestone Mx Park. The move took place in the last 4 months & has proven to be a positive one. Javier now has a place to not only come and train Freestyle Motocross, but also a place for him to spend time with his two sons riding moto & enhancing their skills all while having fun on and off the track. I was able to catch up with Javier & snagged a couple of recent images along with a "Q & A" to go with it.
Q: What is it like being brand new to the NCZ 2013 tour, what were some of your expectations?
A: It is pretty hard, is the first time I have ever done a choreographed show. I've come to find learning the different scenes and keeping up with the other riders has been the challenge, but i've been definitely been improving and having fun with it.
Q: Will you be competing in X Fighters or any other events this year?
A: I will for sure make an effort to be part of the series, i'm missing a couple stops because of the conflict with my Nuclear Cowboyz schedule, but as soon as i'm done with it, i'll be getting back to my normal life of competing in the biggest fmx events.
Q: There always a seems to be a challenge in the everyday life of an athlete. What are some of the goals that you have set for yourself, otherwise challenges that may have been presented to you so far for 2013?
A: First of all, i want to keep improving on my riding. Every time i get on my bike, i want to learn something new. Either a new trick or a new way to do a trick i already can do. After that, my focus is to compete in all the biggest events and to podium in all of them.
Q: What brought you to FMX?
A: Since i learned how to ride my bicycle without training wheels, I've always liked doing tricks and jumping big.Once the FMX sport was born, It was pretty much natural for me to turn from my racing roots...
Q: What direction would you like to see the sport head in?
A: I would like to see more competitions where the tricks are valued for the perfection of execution & extension.
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5-10 years within the sport?
A: Hopefully teaching everything i know to a brand new generation of riders.
Q: So far and up to present date, what has been your most most memorable moment within the Freestyle Motocross Action Sports industry?
A: I'm divided between my World Championship title and my bronze medal from X games, however at the present moment what makes me smile every day, is watching my 8 year old son doing riding moto & his first tricks.
