LEMX – RACE, Sat 9/1/2007 – GFI track
LEMX races bring out some seriously tuff and motivated racers, … some of which happen to be girls ! I’m both following and keeping an eye and ear out for talented female riders. So let it be known. If you’re fast on a bike, and female … contact myself or my daughter Emily.
In fact, my interview last weekend with PRO CIRCUIT’s Mitch Payton will be of great interest to many girls, especially those whom race. I have told Emily all along that she “can” do what boys can do, … “if” she really wants to.
I look forward to seeing a girl competing in the AMA’s Lite’s, and then Supercross and Motocross. It will happen, and she’s out there now “Are you the one ?” This story will first brake here on ThrottleJunkie.com … and by David Ray
I was talking with Jody Weisel, Chief Editor – Motocross Action, when this story comes to pass if I don’t clue him in, I expect to be hunted down like Stewart does to Reedy, … No mercy!
I quizzed Steve Whitlock, Mr. AMA, a nice guy indeed. My buddy however, gave no reply. Just more of his big warm smile. Hmmm, I gotta get that boy to actually read his rule book(s), with all due respect! OK, so really – its not a problem in the rule books!
Race day once again produced a good turn out. The quad races as always, brought excitement with lots of passing, crashes and changes going on. A few more racers would be nice, So come out and play !!! Bring your four wheelers, tell your buddies and just do it. Join the fun at LEM There’s not many tracks like this around for couches, …come and enjoy.
Racing 101
Moto one saw #73, David W. taking the hole shot, only to give it up thru the doubles by #86 Lawrence, pulling an easy 6 second lead. But it wasn’t to be as #86 later gave it back, the guy was racing with badly cut hand, that he acquired in practice – It was set to end this way, then David #73 had a scary crash, … he recovered to finish, however Russ #17 inherited the first place and the win. Take it anyway you can get it, I always say. Meanwhile, Lawrence grabbed second back as David got remounted.
Next up, Patrick Pennington #37 took a clean hole shot, but was soon hunted down and passed by Jerrick Thacker #726. His coach “the Major” (aka: Johnnie) was very pleased as his lead quickly grew. Rider #717 was serious about moving up, and attempted dives to the inside of turns to take over. Last chance was a brake check that didn’t pan out as #717 briefly got in front. But all was to no avail as #37 held onto 2nd place, by a few bike lengths thru the checkers.
Our moto girl Jeannette Wall #272, was taking in some action on this moto as well, and was mixing it up. 272 left the gate with all boys and was looking strong. As she worked toward the front. As Wall was attacking the track, she landed a double leading into a fast and dusty turn. It was then Wall’s world came to an abrupt stop as she tucked her front end and was spit off hard. This ended Wall’s day with a DNF as Jerrick took the win by 20+ seconds, followed by Patrick. …
Alicia Brinkman #330 was in the moto as well. But not a threat to anyone but herself (sorry Blondie, could resist) Fact is, our friend and rider of week had rung her bell and broke a finger the day before. As I watched Alicia tape the busted finger to a good one, I quote her as saying
“I have three good ones, plus my thumb, …no worries” I just need to pull the clutch to get off the line. Plan B was taping her hand directly to the clutch, I kid you not!
On the little bikes, Michael Quinn #238 aboard his KTM, narrowly took the hole-shot. There after though, Quinn checked out by a half a lap plus for the win. This kids got talent! Quinn was tearing it up, clearing the doubles, gravity cavity plateau, and in a total rhythm thru the triple threat. Look for him at an AMA event some day.
I was a bit outta the loop on race stats and names, as medical equipment came on site. So I didn’t obtain all race info. That being said, Starting the weekend of 9/15 – I will post the actual stats, names (correctly), numbers and classes for “all” the days races.
In addition, I will be giving highlights for “each and every moto”. So look here on TJ to see waz-up at the Sat LEMX races. This info and report will be up by Sunday eve. or Monday a.m. at the latest, depending on how many races Throttle Junkie has me at. I will soon be following races at Perris Raceway as well.
Hall of fame Jest ski champ Mike “the Mauler” Yellich will be racing this weekend and has taunted me into lining up as well, … have I mentioned im a Praying man!
