Monday Conversation II: Kyle Lewis

By: Steve Matthes

Thirty-eight-year-old Kyle Lewis has been a journeyman pro for a long time. He came onto the scene in 1987, winning San Diego SX in the 125cc West class. He went on in his career and has certainly seen enough in his life to write a book educating any youngsters on the ups and downs of being a professional motocrosser.

This past weekend at Glen Helen, Kyle raced the World Vet Championships and came home with the victory. His 2-2 moto scores narrowly edged out Craig Decker’s 1-3 (they used the Olympic style of scoring.) Amazingly enough, despite being eligible for eight years, this was the first time he showed up and raced with the geezers. We tracked him down after the race when he was relaxing with his family and wiener dog.

Great time hanging and shooting at paradise ranch with the Fmxbros. Metz is the godfather of freestyle when you go to a shoot with metz all the rides are stoked to have him around it’s a feeling of respect for metz as he watches the boys do their thing on the ramps and in the air. He earned that respect I feel the same as a FMX photographer when I’m there. I been taking pics as long as freestyle been around thanks to Link and Metal Mulisha I remember when that name MM was told to me in my home for the first time and the FMX talent that went with the name. Check out the pics thanks.

Intense Search & Rescue Efforts Underway for Jeremy Holland

November 5, 2008

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Racers and family,
Some of you already know about the Search & Rescue effort approaching the 2 week mark in Indonesia, but many do not. I would like to take advantage of my e-mail list to update the Region 2 and 1 racing family, and ask all of you to help support the search for Jeremy Holland.
For those of you hearing about this for the first time now, Jeremy, was in Bali to officiate the PWC events at the Asian Beach Games. On Friday, October 25th, while on a “rec” ride, his ski broke down and he was lost at sea. Go to www.IJSBA.com and www.PWCToday.com for the official and unofficial reports and updates.
A quick update is that they have been searching extensively for the last 12 days with helicopters and boats, and there is still much reason to believe he is waiting out there somewhere to be rescued. Even Sir Richard Branson from Virgin Airlines has dedicated funds and a helicopter or two.
For those of you that don’t know Jeromy Holland, he has been the starting line race director at the IJSBA World Finals the past 3 years, and is a past British racer himself. After working with him 2 of those years in Havasu, I can honestly say he always did everything he could for the racers and for the sport.
What I am asking with this e-mail… picture yourself lost out there on the beach in Indonesia. Or picture one of our Region 1 or 2 family members out there. If we all donate $20-$100 a piece, that could give Jeremy’s wife, 2 daughters, brother, and the rest of the S&R crew many more hours of helicopter and plane time to find him. I know if i were out there I would be praying that people would give that little bit to get me off that “Surviror-Bali” island.
SO… Click here to go directly to the PayPal Donation Site*. It is really easy, and you don’t have to have a paypal account, all you need is you CC number. I just donated $50, and it was easy. *This donation fund is approved/supported by the IJSBA and Shawn Alladio of K38 Rescue.
You can also Click Here to view the website set up by the family where you can get additional information about donating and leave a note for the famly if you would like.
Thank you all for sticking together through tough times, I hope everyone is doing great, and I look forward to see you all out on the water sooner than later.
