Chris MacClugage and his wife Rachel were invited by Brian Smith and his wife Jennifer Jeter, to race in a region 5 event in Texas on July 4th 2009. Chris MacClugage entered the event aboard a Yamaha FZR courtesy of Northern Texas Yamaha. The FZR was built one day prior to the racing using parts brought by Chris off of his own race boat. The event was hosted by Brian and Jennifer was very well organized with a beautiful race site that would be a perfect location to hold a National Tour stop. Chris signed up for both the Pro Runabout Stock and Pro Runabout Open class.
In the Pro Runabout stock class Chris won each moto both days for two 1st place finishes for the weekend. In the Pro Runabout Open class on Saturday Chris was in contention for a podium finish but was docked one lap on a questionable missed bouy penalty. Sunday Chris battled with Billy Dearman to take the overall victory for Sunday, Billy and his open class runabout were not enough to defeat MacClugage’s stock class Yamaha FZR, showing once again this year the dominance of the FZR.
Rachel MacClugage rode a Hydrospace S4 that was borrowed for the weekend from a good friend of Macc Racing Joey Domingue. Rachel was able to continue to do what she has done all season long on the National Tour and that is dominate the Pro Women’s ski class. Rachel went on to win her 4th an 5th race in a row for 2009 putting her comfortably in 1st place in the National Highpoint rankings. Chris and Rachel would like to thank Northern Texas Yamaha for the loan of the FZR, Joey Domingue, Brian Smith and Jennifer Jeter, and the Brit Crew for all of there hospitality and help for their weekend in Texas, and they look forward to racing the event again next year.
