Jet Ski Hall of Fame / Where it all started

Posted by mauler On September - 29 - 2009 Comments Off

hallOFfameSports pioneers and early legends in the first ever induction to the new Hall of Fame.  IJSBA managing director Scott Frazier choose the 25th Anniversary of the IJSBA World Racing Finals as the venue to launch the IJSBA Hall of Fame.  The 25 inaugural members are a truly international group, with members from Japan , France , Canada , as well as the United States .

The IJSBA 2006 Hall of Fame fellow inductees are individuals who have gone the distance, matured with the industry and basically paved the way for everyone today who enjoys the use of these unique boats on many levels.

It began with a desire to race, to compete, to win.  I looked slowly around the room at the IJSBA awards, those years rewound. I knew everyone there, we were getting older, but many of us like myself have all lived a dream that many only imagine.  We are the fortunate ones, out of billions of people, the Jet Ski has made our dreams, my dreams a true reality.  The Hall of Fame is a significant life achievement.  I’ve traveled the world, met incredible people, saved lives and all because of racing and not giving up, and because a Jet Ski changed my direction in life when I was 18 years old, and it just keeps getting better.

Danny “Magoo” Chandler Van Fund Video

FULLERTON, CA – Brad Lackey has produced a broadband viral video on YouTube about how viewers around the world can help him and his motocross friends raise funds to build and purchase a custom, modified van for 1982 Motocross and Trophee des Nations Champion Danny “Magoo” Chandler. The video provides some fun background on Brad’s history with Danny racing in northern California as well as Danny’s accomplishments and his tragic accident at the Paris Supercross in 1985. Brad also explains how Danny is helping new and younger motorcycle riders learn to ride safely yet his own transportation is sorely needing replacement in order for him to keep doing what he is doing. There is great footage from Danny’s DVD “Magoo-The Story of Danny Chandler” as well as photos of the type of van Brad and friends are working towards. Between $75,000 and $100,000 is needed to complete the project and set up the necessary maintenance and insurance funds. Almost a quarter of it has been raised so far.

“Jody Weisel at Motocross Action magazine suggested this idea could be a way to reach a larger audience and we all said ‘Yeah, let’s do it!’, said Brad Lackey. “Our hope is this goes around the world, reaching many of the fans and industry people who Danny touched with his incredible riding ability and personality. We encourage everyone who knows Danny and knows people who know Danny, to send the video link.” Lackey added.

The video has information on how to donate through traditional means as well as the internet though www.LegendsAndHeroesTour.org. It also announces an eBay auction beginning on September 25th, 2009, featuring memorabilia from riders Bob Hannah, David Bailey, Tony DiStefano, Jim Holley, Jason Lawrence, Davi Millsaps, Brad himself, and more.

For more information, see the video and to donate visit: www.LegendsAndHeroesTour.org or www.BradLackey.com.

For more information about Danny Chandler and to purchase Magoo merchandise and DVD’s visit www.DannyMagoo.com

Some of the biggest names in offshore racing gathered with R.P.M. Racing Enterprises around the historic Queen Mary at 8 am on July 12, 2009 to take on the challenge and test their metal with some of the best offshore racers in the world. The “LB2CAT” is a trek just under 60 miles round trip from Long Beach to Catalina Island & back across the treacherous channel waters on PWC/Jet-Skis.  The racers take on the mighty Pacific Ocean and shipping channel that presents wind, kelp, rollers, chop and navigation to the racer to assess and overcome.  The racers that participate in this race come prepared looking like linebackers with helmets, neck collars and mouthpieces to hold 75 to 80 mph watercraft wide open throttle (WOT) across the channel and back, a true test of physical strength and mental stamina.  This epic and historic race attracts the truly hard core pros and enthusiasts to pursue the prestigious win and membership into the “Platinum Club” of offshore racers who win the overall.  Honda came with their guns loaded with Honda sponsored racer Nick Vanis, Monster Kawasaki brought World Champion and returning offshore defending champion racer Craig Warner, PWCOFFSHORE Racing had their team prepped and ready to pursue a win with recent Mark Hahn 300 winners Mark Gerner and Robert Carreon in the PROAM class, there were a number of bone stock SeaDoo IS craft in the mix, one ridden by PWI’s Kevin Shaw and the new Yamaha FZR also debuted with two participants choosing it as their weapon of choice for the day.

Honda suspends PWC Production Indefinitely

Honda suspends PWC Production Indefinitely

Statement by American Honda Motor Co., Inc.
Re: HSC Production Status

Honda of South Carolina Mfg., Inc. (HSC), in Timmonsville, S.C., will focus exclusively on its role as a producer of all terrain vehicles (ATVs) due to the improving ATV market and reduced inventory levels of most ATV models. The plant will not resume assembly of personal watercraft (PWC), suspended since January 2009. Current inventories of Honda PWCs are adequate to meet market demand. Therefore, a 2010 model will not be necessary. Production of PWCs will resume at another Honda plant in the future once market conditions improve.

HSC resumed ATV production in early May, 2009 after suspending production in March, 2009, to better manage inventory levels and the challenging market conditions. As the ATV market shows signs of recovery and growth, HSC will focus on strengthening this core responsibility within global Honda.

The HSC facility that formerly produced PWCs will serve as a Consolidation Center for ATV production, for more efficient preparation and delivery of parts to the ATV assembly lines. Similar on-site Consolidation Centers have been created at Honda automobile production facilities in Ohio, Alabama and Indiana, as part of a strategy to increase efficiency and flexibility, and to reduce the environmental footprint of Honda operations.

HSC’s current employment of approximately 600 Associates will remain unchanged as a result of these announcements. Honda products are manufactured in the U.S. using domestic and globally-sourced parts.
