HelpDaveAs many of you may know, one of members was badly injured at PIR on Thursday, August 20th. Dave Schelske was an on-track photographer for the night when a rider (unknown at the time of writing this) lost control and hit Dave from behind, shattering his right hip and breaking his right shoulder.

You can imagine how astronomical the medical bills for this will be for Dave. Additionally, as a freelance photographer, his source of income will be significantly hampered. In addition to any other help that I am able to offer, I am pledging $100 to Dave and his family and I challenge every NWDR member and reader of this post to pledge any amount that they can.

I understand that not everyone will be able to contribute this much, but some will and some may be able to contribute more. Pledge whatever you can. $100 is what we are able to pledge.

Please contact me (Echo) at echo@nwdirtriders.com with the amount that you are willing to pledge to Dave. I will handle collecting all the money and getting it to Dave. There has been talk of PayPal, but that charges a percentage and I think that every dollar we can get to Dave will benefit him. I can take cash or check in person or by mail or I can take PayPal: kennycarlile _AT_ gmail _DOT_ com

I challenge you to pledge whatever you can to help Dave.

Meeting sharpens focus on upcoming Lake Elsinore GP

normal_A2005EGP-003A largely supportive audience of about 45 people gathered to help Lake Elsinore officials plan a revival of the popular Grand Prix event and avoid any potential pitfalls that could surface in November when racers blast off from the starting line.

The organizers, potential volunteers and city officials cited the need for advance planning, safety procedures and public awareness.

That will require a lot of community involvement in the weeks leading to the Nov. 7-8 event, city officials said.

“We need volunteers to get involved in this project,” Mayor Bob Magee said in his opening remarks at the town hall-style session held last week.

The timing of the event is meant to follow a tradition that was established in 1996 of holding the event on Veteran’s Day weekend.

normal_A2005EGP-080When asked for a show of hands, 11 audience members indicated they would be willing to serve as volunteer event liaisons. That response was applauded by organizers.

“We’re definitely going to form a [core] committee of either three or five people to help us organize with liaisons for input on these issues,” said Dave Oster, president of Diamond Stadium LLC, which is overseeing race planning efforts. “We’ll meet in a couple of weeks to begin that process.”
