Travis Baker on MXTalkRadio.com Tonight

Stephenson, Hahn, Hughes and Baker on MXTalkRadio.com Tonight

Tonight on MXTalkRadio.com @ 7:00pm Pacific

You guys know that around here at MXTalkRadio we love MotoXDream.com Fantasy Racing, so to kick off this ultra packed show we’ve got MXD’s original architect, the Rockstar Denny Stephenson. Supercross/Motocross Fantasy Racing was Denny’s brainchild back in the late 90’s, and although it has seen copious transformations through the years, we thought it would be cool to hear about the early history and idea that beget MXD.
A few weeks ago, Bodybag & Forehead were blasting through the list of who’s-who and where are they now for 2011 SX. At the time, we couldn’t say where Tommy Hahn was going to be for 2011, well we decided the best way to handle it would be to ask Tommy ourselves. So, Tommy will join us to talk about his 2011 bike/team setup, what gear he’s wearing, what he did during his time-off, etc…
After Tommy Hahn wraps up, we’ve got ‘Ryno’ Ryan Hughes coming back on for what will very likely be a weekly segment here on MXTalkRadio. Ryan is pumping RynoPower.com and he’s got a bunch of killer tips for the weekend warrior regarding fitness, nutrition and keeping a mental focus to be competitive. Don’t think for a second that Ryno is only bringing fitness and nutrition to the show either, he’s got way more up his sleeve but you’ll have to tune in to hear it for yourself.
Last but certainly not least, phenom Travis Baker will punch in to talk about his new ride with the Troy Lee Designs Team. Travis opened quite a few eyes last season with his consistency and stellar finishes often topping the odds-on favorites. This year will undoubtedly be no different for Travis with the support of Team TLD, and we’ll talk with him about the new ride and the changes he’s got going for 2011.
Check in LIVE!!! @ 7:00pm Pacific, this Tuesday, and every Tuesday on MXTalkRadio.com.

Josh Hansen has taken out the 2010 Monster Energy Super X Championship in treacherous racing conditions at QSAC Stadium in Brisbane tonight with Matt Moss claiming the overall Lites Championship.

Heavy rain during the day completely soaked the track creating extraordinary racing conditions for the riders, which forced the organisers to cancel practice and qualifying. Hansen got out to an early lead in the first of the three, six lappers in the Triple Challenge final and held on for the win. Luke Davis was right behind Hansen and almost overtook him, but went down trying to make the pass which allowed Jay Marmont to overtake him and finish second with Tye Simmonds third.Simmonds claimed the second holeshot of the night, but Hansen passed him for another early lead. Billy Mackenzie then passed Hansen when he chose the wrong line and got stuck behind another rider caught up in the thick mud. Mackenzie won the moto with Simmonds second and Hansen third. The final moto of the series went to Hansen with Mackenzie second and Simmonds third.Hansen claimed the overall championship with Jay Marmont second and Jake Moss holding on for third after a tough night of racing.“I am really stoked Monster brought me out here for this series and I really want to thank my mechanic Eric for being with me the whole time,” Hansen said.“Our goal was to win and that’s what we did so it’s going to be good returning home to the Kawasaki team in the US with this result. I have loved my time here in Australia and can’t wait to come back again next year.”While Marmont finished fourth overall on the night, he was satisfied with second in the title.

“It was really tough conditions out there tonight,” the MX Nationals Champion said. “I got some good starts but couldn’t make it happen and just missed out on the podium. I am pumped to get second overall in the championship though.”Jake Moss was third in the series despite a tough night that saw him finish eighth overall.“Tonight really didn’t go my way. I crashed in the first race and only just made it back to the start gate in time for the second race and crashed in that too,” he said. “I was really stressing about losing my overall podium, but I managed to do well in the final race and beat Tye [Simmonds] to maintain my podium, so that’s a big weight off my shoulders.”

Matt Moss edged out PJ Larsen for his third straight Lites title. Image: Sport The Library.

The Lites championship went right down to the wire with Matt Moss leading America’s PJ Larsen by only five points going into the round.

In the first five lapper Moss and Larsen both went down in the start straight. Larsen was unable to rejoin the race with a huge fall and Moss was unable to restart his bike for most of the race, only rejoining late in the race.

UK’s Steven Clarke came in first with Lawson Bopping second and Joel Roelants third. In the second moto Kade Mosig had his first win of the series with Larsen second and Clarke third. Moss crashed in the first lap and finished tenth meaning Moss and Larsen went into the final race tied on 290 points.Clarke was victor in the final moto for the Lites, but all eyes were on Moss and Larsen in second and third respectively.

Larsen was unable to catch Moss who claimed the Lites championship for the third year in a row. “That was really hard out there tonight, but I am so stoked right now,” Moss beamed. “Rockstar Motul Suzuki we got the hat trick!”Larsen injured his wrist in the earlier fall, disappointed to come so close to the title yet finish second.“It was a really tough night, but I have had a great time racing in the series,” the Lites MX Champion said. “I went down pretty hard in the first moto and was worried I broke my wrist after someone ran over it, but managed to come back and race well in the other two. “It’s disappointing to come so close to the championship. It was a very close battle.”

Ryan Marmont finished third overall for his final year in the Lites championship.“It has been a bit of an up down series for me, but I put in some solid performances and I am stoked to get third overall,” Marmont said.Jacob Wright won the final round of the Michelin Development Series preventing Dylan Long from finishing with a perfect season. Long finished second with Jackson Richardson third.

Dylan Long claimed the overall series honours. Jacob Wright finished second overall and Jake Emanuelli was third.

Red Bull Catalina Grand Prix this weekend

Posted by mauler On December - 2 - 2010 Comments Off
Catalina GP

After a 52-year hiatus, Red Bull has teamed up with My Cuz Vinnie Promotions LLC, the City of Avalon, the Santa Catalina Island Company, The Catalina Island Chamber of Commerce, the Catalina Island Conservancy and Del Amo Motorsports for the race’s triumphant return on December 4 and 5.

The Red Bull Catalina Grand Prix will give a new generation of riders the chance to participate in what was widely considered one of the most challenging and elite races of the 1950s. The course will span seven miles and encompass a variety of terrain including pavement, rocky cliffs, hills, winding turns and a traditional motocross section.

Due to the lax technical inspection, the 1950s race was considered a “proving ground” for various types of suspensions, engine and frame modifications and special tunings. The Red Bull Catalina Grand Prix will follow its 1950s open class tradition by providing races for a wide variety of engine displacement and skill levels.

The field will include almost 800 riders who registered prior to the October 7 deadline. There will be 12 races over the two days with an average of 80 riders per race. The Red Bull Catalina Grand Prix will be AMA sanctioned and all AMA rules will be followed.

“I’m stoked to be part of this historic race,” said four-time Baja 1000 winner and 2010 AMA National Hare & Hound champion, Kendall Norman. “I’ve heard so much about it – the pioneers of the sport racing their old-school bikes in one of the most unique locations imaginable. It’s great that we’ll finish off the season with what’s sure to be one of the most fun races of the year.”

Both motocross superstars and emerging talents will vie for top honors as they blast into the hills surrounding the main port town of Avalon. Riders will look to join Bud Ekins (the stuntman who performed the famous fence jump in “The Great Escape” for Steve McQueen) and Bob Sangren (the race’s only two-time winner) as champion of the island spectacle. Sangren will also be returning to the island to serve as Grand Marshal for the 2010 race.

The event is free to the public, and no tickets are required. There will be ample viewing areas along the course for spectators. For info on getting to Catalina Island, please visit www.catalinaexpress.com.

This December, the stars will align for the rebirth of one of California’s most historic motorcycle races – the Red Bull Catalina Grand Prix.

A DAY IN THE DIRT PICS ARE UP FROM PHOTOCROSS.NET

Posted by mauler On November - 29 - 2010 Comments Off

The old meets the new as in the Old School Motocross theme race ?A DAY IN THE DIRT? was held this last weekend at Pala Motocross track located about 16 miles southeast of Temecula, California an area considered today the mecca of top motocross riders in the world. Back in the day… The 1970?s there was definitely a rivalry  between areas near Temecula, east Riverside County, Saddleback Raceway and north Los Angeles County at Indian Dunes Motocross Park. Both developed some of the greatest USA motocross legends we know today that would change the European dominance in the 1960?s and 1970?s by European riders like riders like Roger DeCoster and Joel Robert. Much of that change should be credited to European legend and motocross champion Roger DeCoster himself as he saw a diamond in the rough with emerging USA talent that would unfold to dominate the sport since then. Although a few great talents now cross the shores to compete and win against the yanks the USA is considered the ROME Empire of motocross but as we know Rome did fall so watch your back! Someone somewhere is training hard to kick our butt. Pictures are up… 8300 of them shot with the newest best kickass lens Nikon sells and a great camera body to match so you?re getting the good stuff!

The Thirteenth annual A Day In The Dirt grand prix went off this year with great racing, perfect weather (clouds watered the track overnight), and a new location. The Troy Lee Designs/Elrod Racing event had made LACR its home until that track closed earlier this year, so the promoters moved the grand prix to Pala Raceway and things seemed to continue smoothly at the family-friendly “fastest party in town.”

The event had several grand prix for all speeds and ages, as well as vintage GPs, a So Cal reunion race (Indian Dunes vs. Saddleback), a stuntman’s GP (the event is half motorcycle industry and half film stunt industry, so stuntmen are out in force at the event every year), a Moto-A-Go Go team GP, and the Coup de Grace, a race with no specified end, just an assurance it will require at least one fuel stop.

Troy Lee brings out some big names, and just looking down the finishing position of the So Cal Pro race showed Erik Kehoe, Jeff Emig, Ron Lechien, Jeff Matesivech, Jeff Ward, and Tommy Clowers in the top six positions.

But the big race of the 3-day event is the finale, the Coup, and this year Andrew Short took the win in the hour and thirty minute race. Josh Strang grabbed second, and rounding out the top five were Mark Samuels, Blake Savage, and Davis Gassin. Short looked and rode great all day on his new orange ride for 2011 his factory KTM.

The Coup is a chance for local riders of all skill levels to line up and race the track alongside (well, not alongside for long!) moto-heroes. It’s never fun to get lapped, but it’s easier to stomach when the rider flying past is Jeremy McGrath.

For more info and photos on the event, and full race results coming soon, check out www.adayinthedirt.com. And then start planning where you’ll be, and who you’ll be alongside, next Thanksgiving weekend.
